Stephanie Bachir

Visiting PhD Student

Stephanie Bachir is a visiting scholar at PSL, affiliated with the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven, northern Germany. An architect and interdisciplinary researcher in AWI’s Bionic Lightweight Design group, Stephanie works at the intersection of biology, computational design, and structural engineering. She holds a Master’s in Advanced Architecture from IaaC Barcelona and is currently pursuing a PhD at Aalto University, focusing on biomimetic approaches and computational methods to translate the lightweight structural principles of microalgae, namely diatoms, into efficient design applications. Alongside her scientific research, Stephanie brings over a decade of experience in academia, fabrication-driven product design and prototyping, and architectural consultancy across a range of project types and scales.
